Driving While Distracted

The US Department of Transportation is investigating new technology that would disable cell phones while driving.  In 2009, 5,500 people died and 500,000 people were injured in car accidents related to distracted driving. Read the rest of this entry »

Airport Body Scanners?

Thirty-eight airports in the United States are currently equipped with Advanced Imaging Technology Machines or full body scanners at the security checkpoints.   This year 450 scanners are to be installed in 50 US airports and another 500 machines next year.  There are two types of scanners being installed.  One scanner uses electromagnetic waves to produce a 3-D image while the other, more controversial machine called a backscatter scanner uses a low dose x-ray to produce “nude images resembling a chalky drawing with facial features blotted out.” Read the rest of this entry »
